Glenn Beck Says He Was Nearly ‘Lynched’, the Pope On Twitter, and an NFL Player Live-Tweets His Exchange With Police

Conservative radio host Glenn Beck stole the show at an outdoor movie screening in Manhattan this week. Moviegoers tweeted pictures of Beck and his family at the event. Though the pictures look like nothing's wrong, on his radio show Beck said it was a "hostile situation" and that he was "harassed." His daughter had persuaded the family to go to the screening of Alfred Hitchcock's "39 Steps." Beck choked up on his show when explaining that his daughter later a

pologized. He said, "I called my daughter and I said 'honey, it's not your fault.'" When Beck and his family got up to leave, he said, the audience applauded. "I swear to you I think, if I had suggested, and I almost did, 'Wow, does anybody have a rope? Because there's a tree here. You could just lynch me.' And I think there would have been a couple in the crowd that would have." But some people at the event tell a different story. One person tweeted that though Beck was taunted, it was "no more than any other celeb would be at an NYC event." The person sitting behind Beck who allegedly spilled wine said it was "100 percent accidental...and apologies were made." This is like a traditional media vs. social media version of "he said, she said."

The newest famous person on Twitter may have only about 36,000 followers so far, but he has more than 1 billion followers in real life. It's the pope! His holiness sent his first tweet yesterday from -- what else -- an iPad. After plugging the Vatican's new website[OLY1] , the pope wrote, "Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI." This is by no means the first time the Vatican dabbled in social media. It already has YouTube and Facebook pages and an iPhone app called Confession: A Roman Catholic App. The app is a how-to guide to Catholic confessions. As for Twitter, if you're looking for the pope to follow you, don't hold your breath. He doesn't follow anyone yet.

Darnell Dockett, a linebacker for the Arizona Cardinals and active Twitter user, live-tweeted his encounter with the law yesterday to his nearly 72,000 followers. When two police officers pulled him over and asked to search his car. Dockett tweeted, "Police said 'do you mind if we look around in your Vehicle?' I said I sure DO! He said 'I'm gonna call back up' I said u wanna use my phone?" Dockett followed, "There R 3police cars and they are talking! I don't see A search warrant they won't see inside this escalade! I got all day hope they don't!" Dockett ended by tweeting, "No ticket and I didn't get punk by PO-PO today now I'm off to my 2nd work out! Police aint searching...with no warrant 'holla at me!'" Dockett fans loved the play-by-play tweets. One tweeter called it, "pure Twitter awesomeness."
