Dog Regains Eyesight, Reunites With Owners in Emotional Video

A dog that went blind due to diabetes regained its eyesight thanks to modern medicine. But it's the video of the dog's reunion with its owners that has everyone talking.

Duffy is a 9-year-old Irish terrier. According to Benjamin May, whose parents care for the pet, Duffy is a rescue dog with his share of health battles, including diabetes.

"Within about 3-5 months he went from a totally normal 8 year old dog to a dog who was completely blind," May wrote on Reddit. "Thankfully we got his numbers steady and (doctors) said we could attempt surgery."

The surgery went off without a hitch. Duffy looks thrilled and his owners sound even more excited in the minute-and-a-half clip. May, who left the U.S. seven months ago to work overseas, was sent the video so he could see that Duffy was OK. May shared it on both YouTube and Reddit. It has been viewed more than 633,000 times since Saturday.

Regarding Duffy's medical expenses, May said the insulin costs $350 a month and the surgery was $5,000. But there is no price tag on the dog's quality of life and the joy he brings to others, May added.

"I know most people will [say] that that was a waste of money but whatever," he wrote. "He's happy and he makes us happy, he's family to us, you can't put a price on family."

May hopes to return home before the end of the year to visit his family and have his own eye-to-eye reunion with Duffy.
