What to watch for Tuesday in politics

President Obama is holding an 11:35 a.m. EST press conference to talk about the bill Congress passed last week to extend the payroll tax cut and unemployment insurance to the end of 2012. He is expected to press lawmakers to take additional steps to create jobs, grow the economy and help the middle class. Obama will be joined at the press conference by Americans who shared on WhiteHouse.gov and Twitter what the $40 per week provided by the tax cut means to them.

Rick Santorum will be in Arizona on Tuesday ahead of the Feb. 28 primary. He'll speak at 11:30 a.m. MST at the Maricopa County Republican Party Lincoln Day Lunch, along Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who had endorsed Rick Perry. Santorum also plans a rally at the same venue at 5:30 p.m. MST.

Mitt Romney will be in Michigan campaigning hard to fend off Santorum's momentum in the state, which also has its primary on Feb. 28. He'll hold a town hall meeting in Shelby Township at 11:10 a.m. EST. Mitt Romney's wife, Ann, also will be campaigning in Michigan. She has a 9:15 a.m. EST stop in Battle Creek and an 11:45 a.m. EST event in Hudsonville. Meanwhile, son Josh Romney will be campaigning for his father in Washington state.

Newt Gingrich will be in Oklahoma, where he will speak to the state legislature at 10 a.m. CST. Oklahoma's primary is Mach 6, Super Tuesday.

There were no details on Ron Paul's web site about his campaign plans for Tuesday.

Back at the White House at 7:30 p.m. EST, President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will host a blues concert in recognition of Black History Month. B.B. King will be among those performing.

And then there is this: Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe, a Republican, turns 65 Tuesday.
