The TicketDecision Day: Romney hits Ohio and Pennsylvania one more time, and more
This is the day you find out if the public opinion polls were right about the presidential race. Or, to put it another way, Tuesday is the real public opinion poll, the one based on the votes cast.
Will President Barack Obama win re-election? Or will the winner be Republican nominee Mitt Romney? Will one of them win the popular vote and the other the Electoral College vote? We will know tonight, or will we?
And, although the presidential race is the big show, don't forget all 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, one-third of the U.S. Senate and 11 governor seats are on ballots Tuesday, too.
Obama is not scheduled to campaign Tuesday. In fact, he plans to spend part of the day playing basketball. He does have a speech planned in the evening at the 18,000-capacity McCormick Place in Chicago after results come in. Vice President Joe Biden will be there, too, as will first lady Michelle Obama and second lady Dr. Jill Biden.
Romney had billed Monday as his last day of campaigning, but his campaign announced Monday afternoon that he will make two stops Tuesday — one in Ohio and one in Pennsylvania. That's probably because polls show Romney and Obama running neck and neck in both states, and both are important steps to victory for both candidates.
Romney's post-results speech is set at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, and his running mate, Paul Ryan, will be there. So will Romney's wife, Ann.
And then there is this: Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will present their Comedy Centrol shows live on Tuesday night beginning with "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart presents — Election Night 2012: This Ends Now" at 11 p.m. EST, and continuing with a special edition of "The Colbert Report" titled "Election 2012: A Nation Votes, Ohio Decides" airing at 11:30 EST. The shows also will be broadcast on MTV's JumboTron screen in Times Square.
