The TicketTuesday in politics: Obama speaks at U.N., and more
President Barack Obama will speak Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly and the bloody uprising in Syria is expected to figure prominently in his remarks. First lady Michelle Obama will be present for the president's speech.
Following the U.N. address, Obama will head over to the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting and give another speech. Mitt Romney will speak at the meeting earlier in the day.
Romney also will speak at the 2012 Education Nation Summit hosted by NBC News, where he is expected to talk about what it will take to prepare Americans for the jobs of the 21st century.
That won't wrap up the day for Romney. He then flies to Ohio to join running mate Paul Ryan on the second day of the "Romney Plan For A Stronger Middle Class" bus tour. Romney and Ryan will be joined by Sen. Rand Paul for a rally at Dayton International Airport, and Romney and Paul will attend another rally later in the day in Kettering. Romney will wrap up the tour on Wednesday with stops in Columbus, Cleveland and Toledo.
Also worth noting on Tuesday in presidential politics: Vice President Joe Biden will campaign in Virginia; Ryan will break away from the Ohio bus tour to head to Texas to raise campaign cash; and the president and first lady will appear on a segment of ABC's "The View" that was taped Monday.
Remember when U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin was expected to drop out of the Missouri race following comments he made during an Aug. 19 TV interview about women's bodies being able to prevent pregnancy in cases of "legitimate rape"? Well, on Tuesday -- the deadline day for him to get a court order to drop his challenge of Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill -- he launches a four-day "Common Sense" bus tour across Missouri.
And then there is this: Ann Romney appears on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," her first late-night talk show appearance.
