The TicketThursday in politics: Obama tours Sandy damage, and more
President Barack Obama flies to New York on Thursday to view damage caused by Superstorm Sandy and last week's nor'easter. Obama will be greeted by N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and he'll talk with citizens who are recovering from the storms.
New York, along with Connecticut, New Jersey and Rhode Island, has been declared a major disaster area.
A delegation of bipartisan mayors, led by U.S. Conference of Mayors President Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, will be in Washington to meet with members of Congress to express the organization's opposition to the "fiscal cliff" spending cuts scheduled to automatically kick in Jan. 2. The mayors' message? The $109 billion in cuts would have a "devastating impact" on local communities.
The mayors also will meet with Vice President Joe Biden to discuss the economy and the "fiscal cliff."
Speaking of Biden, he has a guest appearance Thursday evening on the NBC sitcom "Parks And Recreation." He will play himself.
There are three congressional hearings scheduled Thursday on the Sept. 11 Benghazi attack. Committees holding the hearings: the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the House Intelligence Committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee. The two intelligence committee hearings will be closed.
Former CIA Director David Petraeus, who resigned last week after admitting to an extramarital affair, is scheduled to testify before the House Intelligence Committee on Friday about Benghazi. That hearing, too, will be closed, according to the Associated Press.
And then there is this: Obama will host the cast and crew members of the film "Lincoln" for a screening at the White House on Thursday afternoon.
