Scorsese to direct Bill Clinton documentary

Former President Bill Clinton will soon get the Martin Scorsese treatment.

HBO announced Monday that the Oscar-winning director will produce and direct a movie on Clinton for the network. The documentary is being made with Clinton's full cooperation and "will explore his perspectives on history, politics, culture and the world," according to a release.

"A towering figure who remains a major voice in world issues, President Clinton continues to shape the political dialogue both here and around the world," Scorsese said in a statement. "Through intimate conversations, I hope to provide greater insight into this transcendent figure."

It's unclear if Clinton will be paid for his cooperation. In a statement, the former president said he was "pleased" that Scorsese and HBO had decided to do the film and that he looked forward to "sharing my perspective."

According to HBO, the film is also being produced by Steve Bing, a major Democratic donor and longtime Clinton associate.

The network did not say when the documentary would air. The film comes on the heels of two other Scorsese collaborations with HBO, including a film about former Beatle George Harrison.
