Santorum web ad trashes Huntsman on abortion

Rick Santorum hasn't been shy about going after his 2012 GOP rivals, and Jon Huntsman is no exception.

Santorum's presidential campaign released a web video today mocking Huntsman's quirky campaign spots that were released ahead of his official 2012 kick off. The ads featured an unidentified motocross rider blazing across the desert as a countdown ticked off the days remaining until his announcement.

The Santorum parody ad is strikingly similar to Huntsman's--which also show a man riding dirt bike through the desert. "Hasn't signed the anti-abortion pledge," a message on the scene says. "Just like Mitt Romney…"

Seconds later, the rider wipes out.

Santorum is referring to a sweeping anti-abortion pledge sponsored by the Susan B. Anthony List, which supports pro-life candidates for Congress. As The Ticket reported Monday, Romney has been under fire from Santorum, Michele Bachmann and others for refusing to sign the pledge, which he says is too restrictive.

Huntsman spokesman Tim Miller defended his boss, pointing out that Huntsman is a "life-long, no flip-flops pro-lifer" and signed anti-abortion legislation into law when he was governor of Utah.

"People who rely on pledges usually don't have a record," he said in an email.
