Romney ‘vigorous,’ seems ‘younger than his age’: Doctor

Does Mitt Romney have any surrogates anywhere who praise him as fulsomely as his personal physician does? The Republican presidential nominee's campaign on Friday released a note from his longtime doctor, Randall Gaz, attesting to the candidate's good health—and much, much more.

"His most recent physical examination on 8/9/12 revealed a healthy appearing, energetic, strong, physically fit male. He appears years younger than his age," Gaz, who has taken care of Romney since June 1989, wrote in the letter.

"He has shown the ability to be engaged in multiple, varied, simultaneous activities requiring complex mental, social, emotional, and leadership skills," Gaz wrote. "He is a vigorous man who takes excellent care of his personal physical health." (His leadership? Did the first draft of the letter diagnose Romney with an incurable case of loving this country? Advanced allergies to apologizing for America?)

Romney's resting heart rate is 40, and he's 6 feet 1.5 inches tall, 184 pounds, Gaz reports. He is allergic to penicillin and takes aspirin and the cholesterol-fighting drug Lipitor daily.

"He has reserves of strength, energy, and stamina that provide him with the ability to meet unexpected demands. There are no physical impairments that should interfere with his rigorous and demanding political career as the next President of the United States," the doctor wrote.

What about running mate Paul Ryan? The attending physician of the U.S. Congress, Brian Monahan, wrote that the Wisconsin congressman is in "excellent" health.

"You have practiced important preventive lifestyle choices to include regular vigorous aerobic and strength-building exercises, a heart healthy diet, smoking abstinence, and infrequent alcohol use," he wrote in a letter to Ryan. The doctor noted that Ryan's father's side has a history of heart disease in their 50s. (The lawmaker has said that his father's death led him to embrace the incredibly demanding exercise regimen known as P90X.)
