Romney on jobs report: ‘If last night was the party, this morning is the hangover’

PORTSMOUTH, N.H.—Mitt Romney said the latest disappointing jobs report is more proof that President Barack Obama's policies aren't working.

"If last night was the party, this morning is the hangover," the Republican presidential nominee said in a statement. "After 43 straight months of unemployment above 8 percent, it is clear that President Obama just hasn't lived up to his promises and his policies haven't worked. We aren't better off than they were four years ago."

Romney is currently en route to Iowa, where he's expected to expand on his remarks on the August jobs number at an event near Sioux City on Friday afternoon. But the optics for his remarks won't be as dramatic as his campaign would like.

As the Wall Street Journal's Sara Murray notes, Romney will address the jobs number in a state with one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation.
