Reports: McDonough favored for White House chief of staff

Longtime presidential aide Denis McDonough has been regarded as the favorite pick for President Barack Obama's new chief of staff, and additional reports published late Wednesday from unnamed sources continue to feed that suggestion.

McDonough currently serves as deputy national security adviser.

Obama's current chief of staff, Jack Lew, has been nominated for treasury secretary.

The president has faced criticism for tapping white men for four consecutive top posts in his administration. McDonough is also a white male.
