It was a long time coming, but Rainn Wilson, the actor who plays the quirky, beet-farming character Dwight Schrute on NBC's "The Office" has seemingly come to terms with the fact that his on-screen alter-ego is the spitting image of Newt Gingrich.
Wilson has switched his official Twitter profile picture to a headshot of Gingrich from the 1970s, when the future House speaker was teaching at the University of West Georgia. Wilson's fans have said for months that Schrute resembles a young Gingrich.
On his Twitter account Saturday, Wilson congratulated Gingrich for his victory in the South Carolina Republican primary.
"Congrats to @NewtGingrich on his win!" Wilson wrote. "If he's still into the whole 'open marriage' thing I'm VERY interested."
The resemblance of 1970s-era Gingrich to "Schrute" is uncanny. See it here:
