Obama sees ‘real problem’ with Seahawks/Packers call

Forget the Middle East: Frustrated First NFL Fan Barack Obama said Tuesday that the "terrible" end to the Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers game shows that the league and its regular refs need to patch up their differences.

"We've gotta get our refs back," the president said as he returned to the White House following a brief trip to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

Earlier, White House spokesman Jay Carney noted that Obama thought "there was a real problem" with the controversial call that gave the Seahawks a 14-12 win.

"He said that what happened in that game is a perfect example of why both sides need to come together, resolve their differences—so that the regular refs can get back on the field and we can start focusing on a game that so many of us love, rather than debating whether or not a game was won or lost because of a bad call," Carney told reporters.

"He thinks that there was a real problem with the call," Carney said aboard Air Force One. "Everybody who saw that play saw a number of problems with it."

"It was really astounding," Carney added, calling the way the game ended "very distressing for every American football fan."

Obama, a Chicago Bears fan, has been courting voters in Wisconsin, which unlike Washington is a battleground state.
