Obama raises $53 million in March

President Obama's re-election campaign pulled in $53 million in March, Obama for America announced Monday morning.

The campaign, now required to report fundraising figures to the Federal Election Commission each month, featured individual, small donors in a video announcing the March figure.

According to the announcement, 190,000 people gave to Obama's campaign for the first time in March, bring the total number of March donors to 567,000. The average donation: $50.78, with 90 percent of them $250 or less.

"The is really how this works, people building the organization five to 10 bucks at a time to take on Mitt Romney," campaign manager Jim Messina says at the end of the video.
