No jobs added in August

No good news from the Bureau of Labor Statistics this morning. Yahoo!'s Zachary Roth has the details:

"The economy added no net jobs in August -- an even worse performance than had been predicted. The overall jobless rate stayed at 9.1 percent.

"The news, which comes from the Labor Department's monthly jobs report, may revive concerns that the economy could be on the verge of a double-dip recession."

More from the AP:

"It's the first time since February 1945 that the government has reported a net job change of zero. The unemployment rate stayed at 9.1 percent."

During a joint session of Congress next Thursday, President Barack Obama will outline his new plan for economic growth.
