The TicketNH threatens to move its GOP primary to Dec. 6
New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner has said he won't decide until November when he'll schedule the state's Republican presidential primary.
But in a written statement released Wednesday, Gardner threatens to move the state's "first in the nation" primary to as early as Dec. 6th unless Nevada moves its GOP caucus, currently scheduled for Jan. 14th, to a later date.
If Gardner carries out his threat, that could prompt Iowa to move up its tentative Jan. 3 caucus date even earlier—as laws in the state dictate it must holds its caucus at least seven days before another state casts its votes.
Gardner says the drama can be solved if Nevada would simply agree to move its caucus date.
"It's really up to Nevada. If Nevada does not accept a date of Tuesday, January 17th or later for its caucus, it leaves New Hampshire no choice but to consider December of this year," Gardner writes. "The dates of Tuesday, Dec. 13th and Tuesday, Dec. 6th are realistic options, and we have logistics in place to make either date happen if needed."
