Herman Cain’s wife cancels Fox News interview

Herman Cain's wife, Gloria Cain, has remained out of the spotlight throughout his presidential campaign. And now comes news that she has canceled a scheduled appearance on Fox News, the New York Times reports:

Ms. Cain had indicated to the network earlier in the week that she would appear on "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren" tomorrow night, but apparently had a change of heart. The person familiar with the talks, who requested anonymity to discuss private conversations, said that Ms. Cain did not entirely close the door on appearing on the network some time in the future.

Herman Cain has been the focus of intense media scrutiny this week after it became known that he was charged with sexual harassment when he was president of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s.

Since he announced his candidacy earlier this year, Cain has made it clear that his wife would play a subdued role in the campaign and would not appear at most events.

"[Y]ou won't see my family out on the campaign trail on a day-to-day basis," Cain said Monday. "My wife represents that calm and tranquility that I look forward to seeing when I get home. She will be introduced in terms of some limited exposure, but it's not her style for her to be with me on every campaign stop because, number one, it's grueling, and I want her to continue to be the nucleus for that calm and tranquility that you want for your family."
