Florida officials still counting absentee ballots

Officials in nine Florida counties were still counting ballots on Wednesday morning as the race there remains too close to call, according to the Associated Press. There are 20,000 remaining absentee ballots in Miami-Dade county alone, the Miami Herald reports.

According to the state's elections site, President Barack Obama is winning the state against GOP challenger Mitt Romney by about 47,000 votes. He picked up 49.85 percent of the vote, or 4,143 million votes, while Romney picked up 49.29 percent, or 4.096 million votes. A recount is not out of the question, the Herald reports, unless Romney waives it. Miami-Dade polling sites were dogged by long lines on Tuesday, which is one reason the counting is taking so long.

On Tuesday, Obama won 25 states and Washington, D.C., to nab 303 electoral votes. Florida would give Obama 332 votes, with Romney getting only to 206 electoral votes.
