Equal-pay champion Lilly Ledbetter takes a shot at Romney’s wealth

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Lilly Ledbetter, whose fair-pay U.S. Supreme Court case inspired the first bill President Barack Obama signed into law, took a shot at Mitt Romney's wealth Tuesday night on stage at the Democratic National Convention.

After noting that women still make 77 cents for every dollar that men earn, Ledbetter said: "Maybe 23 cents doesn't sound like a lot to someone with a Swiss bank account and Cayman Island investments."

The crowd roared.

Ledbetter, who was one of many female speakers on Tuesday night, delivered her speech on the same day that a new poll found the president's favorability down among women voters. But she touted Obama's record, lauding him for making "equal pay for equal work" a priority.

"Even though I lost before the Supreme Court, we won," she said. "With President Barack Obama, we're going to win!"
