Devo to release song to honor Romney’s dog Seamus

The 1980s band Devo, famous for hits like "Whip It" and "Gut Feeling," will release a song called "Don't Roof Rack Me, Bro (Remember Seamus)" to honor the late Irish Setter famous for riding on Mitt Romney's station wagon during a 1983 family vacation.

Rolling Stone first reported the news about the track, which is scheduled for release on Aug. 25. The Republican National Convention begins Aug. 27 in Tampa, Fla.

Band founder Gerald V. Casale will also launch a Remember Seamus campaign to "make 2012 the year where animals like Seamus are valued and honesty is praised," according to the website mentioned by Rolling Stone.

The news comes on a day when Seamus, who rode inside a dog carrier on top of the Romneys' cramped family station wagon during a vacation to Canada, was a point of contention between the campaigns of the GOP presidential candidate and his rival.

President Barack Obama referenced the Seamus flap while promoting his energy policies in Iowa on Tuesday. Republicans shot back by accusing him of diminishing the office of the presidency with "un-presidential behavior."
