Democrats to launch robocall effort against House members who support Obamacare repeal

House Democrats will begin making robocalls to voters in 10 congressional districts Wednesday that target Republican lawmakers who support a new effort to repeal the 2010 federal health care law.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is paying for the calls, which according to a script obtained by Yahoo News, will warn voters that Republicans support putting "insurance companies back in charge of your health care."

“The Republican Congress is scheduled to vote tomorrow to put insurance companies back in charge of your health care and repeal vital consumer protections and benefits that you’ve earned," the voice on the call will say. “And your Congressman might be part of the problem. Tell [your congressman] to stand up for middle class families here in California—and don't help the Republican Congress give insurance companies more control over your life."

House Republican leaders are planning to vote Thursday on a stand-alone, full-scale repeal of the law, which is expected to pass but won't be picked up by the Democrat-led Senate. Thursday's vote will mark the third time the House has voted on a full repeal of the law, part of a series of 36 votes already taken to defund parts or all of it. The Democratic campaign suggests that Democrats plan to go on the offensive about the health care law in the 2014 mid-term elections.

“Americans are crystal clear: They want Congress to solve problems, not spark ideological battles again and again,” DCCC Chairman Steve Israel told Yahoo News. “Once again, the Republican Congress is wasting taxpayer dollars and trying to put insurance companies back in charge of our care. The consequences are clear: fewer protections for consumers, more health-care related bankruptcies and more money for the insurance companies. We’re urging House Republicans to vote against this and start focusing on real solutions.”

The calls will go to voters in the districts of Reps. Chris Gibson and Michael Grimm of New York, Reps. Frank LoBiondo and Jon Runyan of New Jersey, Reps. Gary Miller and David Valadao of California, Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Bill Young of Florida, Nevada Rep. Joe Heck, and New Mexico Rep. Steve Pearce.

Here's the full script of the call:

The Republican Congress is scheduled to vote tomorrow to put insurance companies back in charge of your health care and repeal vital consumer protections and benefits that you’ve earned.

And your Congressman might be part of the problem. Tell Congressman Valadao to stand up for middle class families here in California—and don't help the Republican Congress give insurance companies more control over your life.

We don’t need any more ideological wars in Washington, we need solutions that reduce health care costs and protect consumers. Sadly, Congressman Valadao might deny coverage to people with preexisting conditions, raise prescription drug costs, kick kids off their parents' health care before they turn 26 and even eliminate the cap on health care costs, forcing people into bankruptcy to take care of their families.

That would be a devastating blow to middle class families like yours across the country.

Call Congressman David Valadao now at [xxx-xxx-xxxx] and tell him to vote no. Tell him it’s time to move forward and strengthen our health care, not join the partisans in Congress who want to put insurance companies back in charge.
