Democrats hit ‘vulnerable’ House Republicans with digital ad buy
Offering a taste of the political ads sure to saturate television markets next year, House Democrats are launching a paid digital commercial buy against "vulnerable" Republicans pointing to their support for the House GOP budget.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is going after Republicans in 17 districts with an online video that highlights cuts to federal spending that were part of the budget plan crafted by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, calling it "Robin Hood in reverse." The budget resolution passed in the House last month but failed in the Senate.
“Republicans say this budget is the best way to communicate their ‘governing philosophy,’ so we’re telling the people what that means: more for millionaires and corporate special interests, less for the middle class and seniors," DCCC spokeswoman Emily Bittner said in a statement. "That might be the Republican Congress’s governing philosophy–but it certainly isn’t the right philosophy for America’s middle class.”
The DCCC would not disclose the size of the ad buy but said the video will run online in these GOP members' districts:
AR-02 Tim Griffin
AR-04 Tom Cotton
CA-21 David Valadao
CA-31 Gary Miller
CO-06 Mike Coffman
IN-08 Larry Bucshon
MN-02 John Kline
MN-03 Erik Paulsen
NE-02 Lee Terry
NJ-03 Jon Runyan
NY-11 Michael Grimm
NY-23 Tom Reed
OH-14 David Joyce
OH-16 Jim Renacci
PA-08 Mike Fitzpatrick
VA-02 Scott Rigell
WA-03 Jaime Herrera Beutler
In response, a National Republican Congressional Committee spokeswoman emphasized that the Ryan budget would repeal the federal health care law and knocked Democrats for not offering a budget that balances in the foreseeable future.
“If Democrats believe they are going to win Republican House districts on a platform of touting support for Obamacare and a budget plan that never ever balances, then please, hit the campaign trail," said NRCC spokeswoman Andrea Bozek. "In 2012, Republicans won our second-largest House majority since World War II precisely because Democrats are in denial about our nation’s spending problem and Obamacare’s job destroying taxes.”
