Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet named DSCC chairman

WASHINGTON—Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet will lead the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee as chairman for the 2014 midterm election cycle, overseeing the party's effort to elect Democrats to the Senate, it was announced Tuesday.

"This will not be an easy job, but I feel strongly that families and small businesses in my state have a lot riding on our success," Bennet said in a statement. "The DSCC has helped stop the rise of the Tea Party and given ordinary families more voices in Washington."

DSCC Executive Director Guy Cecil, who served as Bennet's chief of staff in 2009 and 2010, will remain in the organization with Bennet.

Democrats gained two seats and retained control of the Senate in last month's election, but have seven more senators up for re-election than Republicans in 2014.
