Candice Miller to chair GOP House committee after outcry

Speaker John Boehner announced on Friday afternoon that a woman will chair a House Republican committee after all.

Michigan Rep. Candice Miller set to lead the House Administration Committee. That news follows coverage and criticism regarding the absence of female committee chairs in the House GOP.

From Boehner's announcement:

In her new post, Candice will provide the leadership needed to keep operating costs down, save taxpayer dollars, and help lawmakers use new technology to better engage with their constituents. And her experience as Michigan Secretary of State will be invaluable given the committee's oversight of campaign finance and election laws.

Though House Republicans had not named a woman to chair a committee before Friday's announcement, multiple women were chosen to serve in House Republican leadership roles. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington, for example, was selected to chair the House Republican Conference.
