Burt Bacharach and Hal David win Gershwin Prize; Stevie Wonder, Lyle Lovett, Mike Myers (yes, that one) to celebrate at the White House

That's what friends are for? President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama will celebrate the legendary songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David next week with a star-studded concert featuring Sheryl Crow, Michael Feinstein, Diana Krall, Lyle Lovett, Mike Myers, Rumer, Arturo Sandoval, Sheléa and Stevie Wonder.

Bacharach and David are receiving the 2012 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Paul McCartney won in 2010, and Stevie Wonder won the laurels in 2009.

The duo wrote hits together for decades, notably for Dionne Warwick, including No. 1 hit "That's What Friends Are For." Bacharach also appeared (as himself) in the "Austin Powers" movies and co-wrote an album with former "angry young man" rocker Elvis Costello, "Painted from Memory."

The White House will live-stream the Wednesday, May 9, ceremony, at 7 p.m., to be held in the presidential mansion's East Room.

The concert will also air May 21 at 9 p.m. on PBS."This will be the first time the Gershwin Prize honor has been awarded to a songwriting team; Bacharach and David are a pianist and lyricist respectively," the White House said in a statement.

The prize is named for the legendary songwriting team of George and Ira Gershwin, and goes to musicians for their lifetime contributions to popular music.
