Amid a spate of news reports suggesting Anthony Weiner is eyeing a 2013 bid for New York City mayor, the disgraced former congressman took to People magazine to dispel the rumors.
"I can't say absolutely that I will never run for public office again, but I'm very happy in my present life. I'm not doing anything to plan a campaign," Weiner reportedly says in an exclusive interview out on newsstands Friday. "The only next dramatic steps I'm planning on are Jordan's first," he said, referencing his 6-month-old son.
The article is the first joint interview Weiner and wife Huma Abedin, deputy chief of staff to Hillary Rodham Clinton, have offered since the former New York congressman resigned last June following reports he texted lewd photos of himself to women. Excerpts of the People interview released Wednesday reveal Abedin praising Weiner's parenting skills and voicing public support for her husband.
"Anthony has spent every day since [the scandal] trying to be the best dad and husband he can be. ... I'm proud to be married to him."
