Today in TechYouTube bringing you the Obama vs. Romney debates this October
YouTube announced that it will offer a live stream of the presidential debates leading up to the 2012 election. That means you can see President Barack Obama go toe to toe with Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney four times during October before citizens take to the polls on November 2.
Usually, the debates are only shown during prime time on major U.S. television networks. YouTube's partnership with ABC News is just one way that people can stay involved and informed during the campaign and election process. The YouTube Election Hub will also offer commentary and analysis from its other partners, including Al Jazeera English, The New York Times, and BuzzFeed.
While this is a great way to bring the debates to a wider audience, we've seen other attempts at livestreaming go awry due to copyright issues. The Democratic National Convention was just one of the recent events where video was taken down because a news agency claimed copyright over some of the material, and a political ad for Romney's campaign was removed from YouTube because a music company alleged it incorrectly used a clip of one of its songs. Let's hope the debates stay free of the copyright bots!
