Windows Phone 7 struggles to capture just 4% of the U.S. phone market

Windows Phone 7 — and the soon-to-be-available Windows Phone 8 — has quite the following amongst its small-but-devoted fan base. But just how small is small? A report from Strategy Analytics puts the Windows Phone share of the U.S. market at just 4%.

According to the report obtained by TechCrunch, Microsoft's phone operating system made a minor gain last year from 3.5% up to 4.1%. Analyst Neil Mawston suggests that Windows Phone 7 will likely hold steady around the 4% mark through the rest of the year, completely dominated by Apple's iPhone and competing Android phones.

Not that Windows Phone 7 deserves such a small following. Here at Tecca, we loved the well-styled Nokia Lumia 900, which recently saw its price cut down to $49. The only downside: Windows Phone 7 devices like the Lumia 900 won't be able to upgrade to Windows Phone 8, a fact that surely can't be helping sales.
