Toy Fair 2012: Skylanders Giants hands-on preview

One of the most popular selling games for the 2011 Holiday season was Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. And if publisher Activision has anything to say about it, the sequel Skylanders Giants will be even bigger than the original.

Skylanders broke ground as a revolutionary nexus between videogaming and action figures. As in Spyro's Adventure, players can bring an (included) action figure to life inside the Skylanders game universe by placing it on the bundled Portal of Power. And in this case, promises of a bigger and better experience aren't just marketing bluster — the Skylanders Giants figures really are bigger than that of the previous generation.

Skylanders Giants is slated for an October 2012 release date on the PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 consoles. No price has been set as of yet, though the original Skylanders game retails for $69.99.
