Internet gets Burger King employee fired for sharing a disgusting photo

It's one of those urban legends that you have to hope isn't real — that of a disgruntled fast food employee doing something disgusting to the food you eat. Well, just earlier this week, a Burger King employee took a picture of himself stepping on the lettuce that goes into Whopper sandwiches, and then posted it to the website 4chan. But that's not the story here — the amazing part is what happened immediately after the photo was posted at 11:38 PM.

By 11:47, one fellow website poster was able to determine the city the restaurant was located in using Exif GPS data attached to the picture; by 11:50, the exact Burger King location was determined. At 11:58, a link to the Burger King comment form was posted. The manager of the restaurant in question was reached directly by phone shortly after, who quickly identified the party responsible.

The original poster of the picture was fired. And, according to a statement from Burger King's director of Global Communications, two accomplices were fired as well: "The restaurant where this photo was taken is independently-owned and operated by a Burger King franchisee. The franchisee has taken swift action to investigate this matter and has terminated the three employees involved in the incident."
