GPS shoes help you find your way home

In the classic "Wizard of Oz" scene, Dorothy clicks the heels of her ruby slippers together saying, "There's no place like home. There's no place like home." This was the inspiration for British designer Dominic Wilcox's new GPS shoes that will actually help you find your way back home.

The shoes are currently in the prototype stage, thanks to a commission by the Global Footprint project and some help from his friends at Stamp Shoes. Each shoe works wirelessly with the other to indicate GPS direction and proximity to the final destination. Programming your home location is as easy as plotting a point in the included software, then sending the info via USB cable to the shoes themselves. And yes, you do have to click the heels together to fire up the GPS.

The shoes are currently on display at Wilcox's solo exhibit at London's KK Outlet until September 26.
