First-generation Kindle Fire officially sells out

Given that Amazon has a major event planned for September 6 where it's expected to announce the next generation of the Kindle Fire, it'd be a pretty amateur move to go out and buy a current generation Fire right now. Not that you can — Amazon announced today that it has completely sold out of the soon-to-be-outdated first generation Kindle Fire.

Since its introduction in September 2011, the Kindle Fire has been a best-seller — all ten of the ten best-selling items on Amazon are either Kindles or Kindle content. You can expect the next generation of the Fire to sell just as well, if not better. Well-sourced rumors suggest two different Kindle Fires will be introduced next week: a 7-inch Kindle Fire "Coyote," and a larger 10-inch Kindle Fire "Hollywood." The new devices are expected to have better processors, a forward-facing camera, and possibly HDMI-out ports for viewing content on a larger screen.
