Deceased rapper Tupac Shakur plays one final concert … as a hologram

That's not a ghost you're seeing. This weekend's Coachella music festival indeed finished with a beyond-the-grave performance from a hologram of rapper Tupac Shakur.

Shakur died in 1996, but computer experts used advanced CGI and an old magic trick to bring him back to life for one more concert. Existing video of the rapper was combined with wire framing and CGI to create a 3D illusion. That image was then projected onto a foil to give the performance you can see in the video above.

This is not the first time the technology has been used — Japanese concertgoers have been wowed by holographic performances of a cartoon star known as Miku Hatsune for years. Still, the idea that a rapper who has been dead for sixteen years can still put on a show is nothing short of amazing, if not a bit unsettling at the same time.
