Today in Tech3D-printed baby sculptures are a very expensive way to remember your pregnancy
If you're looking for a way to remember your pregnancy — and raising the human being(s) you are about to give birth to just doesn't cut it in the commemoration department — a Japanese company named Fasotec may have just what you're looking for. Using an MRI scan and a special 3D computer program, Fasotec can create a one-of-a-kind physical mould of an unborn baby with a 3D printer.
The printer uses clear plastic resin to form the shape of a woman's womb, and white resin to shape the image of the fetus. The sculptures — which have been named "Shape of an Angel" by the company — are just 3.5 inches tall and 2.3 inches wide, making them a rather modest piece of baby art. That is, until you hear the price: Each commemorative keepsake costs a whopping $1,230.
It's up to you whether the unorthodox item crosses the line between adorable and creepy, but if you're interested in getting your own 3D-printed fetus, you'll have to travel to Tokyo in order to have your scan done. Alternatively, you could save the cash and buy a few months' worth of diapers for your newborn when he or she finally arrives.
