Anderson Cooper just listed this home at 20 St. George Place, in the Hamptons(-ish) hamlet of Quiogue, for $3.6 million.
Looks like it's time for the Hamptons to throw that going-away party for Anderson Cooper.
CNN's Silver Fox just listed the second of his neighboring pair of properties hugging Aspatuck Creek in the hamlet of Quiogue, near Westhampton Beach Village, our friends at Zillow Blog report. Back in April he'd listed 12 St. George Place for $3 million. Now he's added next-door 20 St. George Place to the market at $3.6 million -- and simultaneously knocked down the cost of No. 12 a second time, bringing that property down to $2.6 million, a discount of almost 15 percent off the original asking price.
The homes are lovely and beachy, with what looks to our eye like some impressive American folk art (a portrait of two girls over a fireplace that reminds us of Ammi Phillips' work; a possible antique wooden "santo" doll in a guest room), plus some beautiful wooden sailboat models.
Why's he leaving the Hamptons area*? Probably because he just bought the 1908 Rye House in Litchfield, Connecticut, for a price rumored to be about as much as both Quiogue pads combined.
The stately -- some might say stodgy -- "English country manor house" in Connecticut doesn't seem in keeping with his style, which makes us curious what he'll do with it. The journalist seems to have an affinity for properties with history: He recently restored a 1906 firehouse in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, and told USA Today that he was shopping eBay to furnish part of it. "I'm moving into a new building in New York from 1906, so I'm making a gym from the turn of the century. I just bought the old kind of weights with big large balls on the ends. Back then there were gymnasiums, climbing ropes in the ceiling: It's an old firehouse [so] I want it to keep the old firemen's gym."
And watch below for a peek as Anderson Cooper plays host to Kathy Griffin in Quiogue. Below that, you'll find a video with a glimpse of his New York firehouse -- said to be haunted, so he brought in a psychic to check it out -- and a video clip showing his lifestyle growing up (his mother is heiress Gloria Vanderbilt):
