Nearly two months after suffering yet another hamstring injury that has kept him from playing, Lionel Messi is now preparing for his comeback. He spent the end of 2013 training on his own in Argentina and it appears he's used that time to make himself even more of a goal threat by working on his shots from behind the goal. You know, just to make goalkeepers even more terrified of him.
Ronaldinho performed a similar trick during a Flamengo training session in 2011, so maybe Messi has spent his free time watches old YouTube videos, as well. But his return seems to be progressing nicely.
Speaking to the ‘Mundo Leo’ show in his native Argentina, the Barça striker said that “after spending new year with my people, I'm flying to Barcelona on January 1 and we'll then have to see when I'll be fit to make my return”.
He added that “the aim will be to get me back to full fitness and the idea is then for me to play a couple of practice games with my colleagues before playing a proper match again”. The team has a tight schedule ahead, with three games in the first week back after the mid-season break, against Elche (Jan 5, 16.00), Getafe in the cup (Jan 8, 22.00) and then the crunch match with the Liga co-leaders Atlético Madrid.
Here's more footage of Messi training like he's Owen Hargreaves...
