DTotD: Las Vegas ‘friendly’ between Club América and Guadalajara descends into mass brawl

There's rarely any love lost when Mexican rivals Club América and Guadalajara meet. There may have been absolutely nothing at stake when the Liga MX sides met in Las Vegas for a 'friendly' edition of El Super Clasico on Wednesday evening, but the match at Sam Boyd Stadium was madder than a box of frogs from the outset.

Before kick off, fans set the tone by fighting like a Clausura depended on it. Sports Illustrated reports:

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports fans threw rocks and bottles at each other before dozens of police officers moved in to quell the violence.

But the incident set the tone for the rest of the night, as unruly fans threw punches, tossed bottles and set off fireworks and flares during and after the match.

On the field, the behavior was no better. After 36 minutes, a challenge in the América box sparked a mass brawl that resulted in four red cards—two on each team. By the time the match finished with a 1-0 win for Guadalajara, the referee had issued a further 5 yellow cards and called up 19 fouls. Once again, this was supposed to be a friendly.

And to think, people usually behave themselves so well when they visit Las Vegas.
