Pepsi-flavored Cheetos are a real thing

For those dedicated eaters out there who feel that consuming a bag of Cheetos and drinking a Pepsi is just too much work, the snack food gods offer you a solution: Pepsi-flavored Cheetos.

The Impulsive Buy blog was the first to write up a review and the results are, well, mixed.

“In these snacks the cheese powder has been replaced with a cola powder that is disturbingly not brown,” the site explains. “The first sensation, which I did not expect, was a very acidic bite. It’s very citrusy, almost sour.”

Technically, the flavored Cheetos are currently on sale only in Japan. But a scan of eBay shows a few options for U.S. buyers who may want to pick up a bag of the unusual flavor hybrid.

A description from the eBay seller reads: “Has Frito Lay gone too far? Yes, you read the flavor correctly... fizzy Pepsi-Cola flavored corn sticks!  Though not officially called Cheetos (likely since there is no cheese), these are made by Frito Lay and take on the same shape and size.”

Reportedly, the Cheetos actually pop and fizz when consumed, somewhat resembling the sensation of soda hitting the mouth.

But the smell of the snack is said to resemble the scent of flat soda mixed with cinnamon donuts.

Bottom line, with all novelty descriptions aside, how do they taste?

“Overall, this is a pretty accurate flavor recreation,” the Impulsive Buy review concludes. “It’s an impressive effort to be sure. That said, I don’t like them.”
