Meet a fearless New York City window cleaner

A lot of people look up to Brent Weingard when he's working.

Weingard is a gravity-defying window cleaner (don’t call him a window washer) in New York City. He's been clearing skyscraper glass for the past 35 years.

From the video from The New York Times, there seem to be some unique requirements for the job: You must be OK with working on the outside of the building. You shouldn't worry about crazy, unnatural heights. You can't be a butter fingers — those squeegees are hand-held high above the heads of New Yorkers on the streets below.

The “man on an edge” uses surprisingly low-tech tools to keep himself safe and get those windows clean. Weingard uses ropes, hooks and a bucket with that trusty squeegee. And his secret formula for getting the glass sparkling clean includes Joy dishwashing liquid.

In the video, the 55-year-old prepares to clean windows in an empty apartment. He attaches his cables to hooks outside the window and then to his window-cleaning belt around his waist. And that’s the only thing that keeps him safe. Clearly, Weingard has a death-defying job.
