‘Creepy’ geometry homework assignment references serial killer Ted Bundy, peeping Tom

A substitute teacher at a Tulsa, Okla., high school may be out of a job after including references to serial killer Ted Bundy and a peeping Tom in a homework assignment.

Oklahoma City's KFOR-TV reports that the substitute was filling in for a geometry teacher at Nathan Hale High School, where he distributed the assignment. One question asked students to measure Bundy's imaginary ladder:

Serial killer Ted Bundy has a 20-foot ladder leaning against his favorite tree. The ladder makes a 64° angle with the ground. What distance up the tree does the ladder reach?

Another referenced a peeping Tom named "Creepy John":

Creepy John watches his neighbors with a telescope. Their apartment is 12ft from the ground. John's is 36 ft. If the angle of depression from John's apartment is 47°, how far apart are the two apartment buildings?

Caleb Starr, the school's principal, told KFOR that the substitute, whose name was not released, wanted to "engage students by getting their attention with colorful questions."

Instead, he got the attention of some of their parents. "The first thing that popped into my mind was just it's creepy," Christina Mattaliano, a parent of one of the students, told Newschannel 5. "I don't know if he's trying to be humorous [or] if maybe that's some of his personal interests."

Starr said the substitute won't be asked back to Nathan Hale. It's unclear if he will continue to work at other schools in the district.
