Biden Jinxes US-Mexico Relations

Politically Foul

Politics: it's not a game, exactly. But there are rules, and when you break them you are running….Politically Foul!

At a Cinco de Mayo celebration, Vice President Joe Biden was attempting to get festive. But he was without the appropriate equipment. Grabbing a glass of water, he began to make a toast, saying, "It's considered bad luck among the Irish to toast with water. So I'm not going to do that." But ultimately Biden couldn't resist, so he toasted anyway, "To friendship, to Mexico and to America, happy Cinco de Mayo."

Whoa - can American foreign policy really survive this kind of jinx? Why don't you just walk under a ladder and hug a black cat?

Meanwhile, Rick Santorum may have left the Republican primary race recently but that didn't stop him from attending the White House Correspondents dinner this week and he was a little star struck. Making the rounds at the celeb-filled gathering, Santorum made a cut back with his camera to snap a fan photo of Lindsey Lohan. Just Lohan. By herself.

And speaking of former candidates, there will be no more controlling the game clock for Newt Gingrich. He has waved the white flag and is surrendering his bid for the White House. As his jersey is retired, we look back at a memorable election season. From penguin bites and moon colonies to healthcare metaphors about make-up and no fewer than eight zoo visits, Gingrich is leaving the game with at least one realistic revelation, "I'm not totally certain I will get to the moon colony." Fair assessment, Mr. Speaker.

Those are the politically plays we flagged this week. Tell us your best and worst moments and we'll survey the field again next week.
