Have a Drink With Krystal Keith: Singer Shares Exclusive Recipe

Budding star Krystal Keith certainly has a pedigree when it comes to country music — she's the daughter of none other than Toby Keith — but the singer-songwriter (who's currently embarking out on tour this spring with her dad) has another talent that she throws equal passion into.

That would be cooking! Keith is serious about her chef skills, which she shows off on her blog The Barnyard Bistro, a haven of tasty recipes guaranteed to make any foodie's mouth water just looking at the photos. We recently cajoled Keith to share an exclusive recipe just with Ram Country, and she obliged with one just right for the upcoming summer months: A cool mint lemonade.

Don't serve this in a red solo cup, friends! It's way too pretty to hide.

"As the heat waves start to move in and we start to see light at the end of the winter tunnel, my mind is reeling with plans for summer cookouts and backyard gatherings," Keith notes of her concotion. "This is the perfect drink to sip pool or patio-side under the hot summer sun. Just the right amount of sweet and the right amount of tart topped off with a refreshing rush of mint. I’m dreaming of flip flops, sun-dresses, and glass after glass of this mint lemonade."

Krystal's Mint Lemonade
Juice of 8 lemons
1 cup mint leaves (loosely packed)
3/4 cup sugar
5 cups water
1 cup mint leaves (loosely packed)

In a bowl, combine 2-3 tablespoons each of the sugar and lemon juice with all of the mint leaves. Use a muddler (or something creative that will do the trick) and muddle the mint leaves. Just a few press and twists should do the trick. Set the muddled mint aside and heat 1 1/2 cups of the water and the remaining sugar in a sauce pan until sugar dissolves. Combine all ingredients together, mix well and pour over ice in a sugar-rimmed glass. Give it a swirl and garnish with a sprig of mint and a lemon twist. Serves 4-6.
