What Do Florida Georgia Line and One Direction Have in Common?

If, after reading the title of this blog, you decided to say "Taylor Swift" -- well, that is one (kinda) link. Hot country duo Florida Georgia Line does share a musical home with Swift as part of the same record label group; while, of course, popsters One Direction will never be able to shake member Harry Styles's well-documented relationship with the blond Nashville superstar.

However, there's yet another, quite timely, milestone that the two bands share. They'll both be making their debut performances on the 2013 American Music Awards next month. Both groups have racked up multiple nominations (FLAGA, a whopping four; 1D a still-impressive two) in the fan-voted awards show.

This marks the latest a string of AMA accomplishments for FLAGA in particular, who are not only nominated in the Country Group/Duo and Country Album categories at the prestigious ceremony, they also are up for the all-genre key awards of New Artist and Single of the Year (for their smash summer hit "Cruise").

"Being nominated for the AMAs is a huge honor for us, especially that it's all-genre. We are blown away," FLAGA's Brian Kelley told Yahoo Music. "We can't wait to celebrate — win or lose — with our team and other artist friends that night."

If the guys win New Artist, they'll have beaten out a formidable list: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Imagine Dragons, Ariana Grande, and "American Idol" Phillip Phillips are all in the running as well. And "Cruise" will be going head-to-head with two of the most infectious summer anthems: Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's "Thrift Shop."

As might be expected, the aforementioned Swift is in deeper waters than both FLAGA and 1D, as she's up for the coveted artist of the year award. But whoda thunk there'd be another connection between two such unlikely bands?

The AMAs ceremony will be broadcast live from L.A. Live's Nokia Theater Sunday, November 24 on ABC. A complete list of nominees can be found here.
