Ruan Liangming, an experienced beekeeper, broke the Guinness World Record for the longest time spent keeping bees on a human’s shoulders. From China’s Jiangxi Province, Ruan boldly told CCTV News, “I have been keeping bees for 19 years, so I know their habits and characteristics. I am quite confident."
Ruan wore no shirt and was only protected by cotton ear plugs when he was smeared with honey and covered with bees. “There are so many bees on him. It looks so dangerous,” said a woman watching Ruan’s feat in fear. The beekeeper lasted 53 minutes and 34 seconds before his legs went numb and he had to shake the insects off. Guinness officials were on site to certify Ruan’s achievement. (Watch Ruan breaking the world record here)
This isn’t the beekeeper’s first world record. On May 6, 2012, Ruan took the record for heaviest mantle of bees weighing 62.1 kg (136 lb 14.51 oz).
