Florida man allegedly pretending to be police officer tries pulling over actual deputy, doesn’t work out for him

On Monday evening, Detective Justin “Chance” Anderson of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office was driving an unmarked car down the International Golf Parkway in Florida. Detective Anderson told First Coast News that he passed a driver, and that when he did he was suddenly met with flashing blue lights in his rearview mirror, saying, “I pulled over to confront the individual. At which point, he pulled up next to me. Kind of gave me the 'slow down' look and pointed this finger at me.” That individual was 20-year-old Matthew Michael Lee McMahon. Mr. McMahon is now in a fair amount of trouble.

The Florida Times-Union reports that after Mr. McMahon drove off in his Crown Victoria, Detective Anderson decided to turn on his blue lights and pull the St. Augustine, Florida man over. St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Catherine Payne told the newspaper that Mr. McMahon, “told several stories about why he had the lights.” Detective Anderson didn’t immediately arrest the man, but after he determined the stories were false, a warrant was issued.

Detective Anderson told First Coast News, “I was shocked to, number one, see somebody affecting a traffic stop on me. We are a rather large department, but I still know a majority of our law enforcement officers." Mr. McMahon is now behind bars at the St. Johns County Detention Facility, charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and unlawfully displaying blue lights.
