Father surprises son returning home with massive weight loss

Two years ago, Ty Higley flew from Idaho to Brazil as part of a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). As KTVB reports, missionaries are allowed only limited contact with their families back home. So, when Ty finally returned home, he had no idea the surprise his father, Duane Higley, had in store for him – a weight loss of 140 pounds.

Ty’s reaction was one of complete shock because his family made sure to keep the weight loss a complete secret, even resorting to some clever tricks. As Duane told KTVB, “He wrote us after Christmas, you know because we can Skype twice a year and he asked, at Christmas he said in his letter, 'Man you guys must've been really cold because you were really bundled up,' because I had a bunch of sweatshirts on…”

Duane actually used his son’s workout videos to help lose the weight. The man and his obviously proud son are now planning to both run a half marathon this summer.
