California mayor caught on camera throwing bag of dog poop on neighbor’s property

On June 7, Dennis Kneier, mayor of San Marino, Calfornia, was out for a walk with his wife when he was caught on Philip Lao’s home surveillance camera, tossing a bag of dog poop onto his walkway. As reported by Whittier Daily News, the mayor said he was walking home with his wife, Liz Kneier, when they “found the bag of poop near the sidewalk.” The footage shows Ms. Kneier walking in front of the mayor and pointing to Lao’s walkway. Mayor Kneier then flings the bag of excrement onto the walkway and continues to walk without stopping.

Mr. Lao was understandably upset when he saw the evidence and gave the video to the San Marino Police Department. Mayor Kneier admitted that he was the man on the video and he has since sent a letter of apology to Lao saying it would not happen again. However, the homeowner was still left with questions. “He has not explained why,” Lao told KABC 7 Eyewitness News. “Why is he doing it? Okay, he lives another two blocks from here. He could have just as easily placed it in a trash can.” While the police say there are no reports of previous issues between the two men, Lao admitted that he has been a vocal critic at city council meetings, opposing a new dog park and the creation of a farmer’s market. Lao thinks that could have been motivation for the mayor to “teach him a lesson.”

KABC notes that Lao has kept the bag and plans to bring it to a future city council meeting.
