Vixen Workout: Boot(y) Camp to Get Your Sexy Back

It’s 2:30 p.m. on a Saturday in Brooklyn. And it’s time for a boot camp, a booty boot camp.

This is the Vixen Workout, a dance fitness routine inspired by some of the hottest clubs in Miami. With moves that get your body rolling, percolating and dropping it low.

“It feels like it's a girls’ night out but there's no one there to judge you,” said workout creator Janet Jones. “There's no men, there's no drinks. It's okay to be naughty and not be judged.”

The former Miami Heat dancer got the idea after a night out with the girls. She was unemployed, but a year later, she's raking in six figures. Every week, 1,500 women in New York City sign up to shake their thang. Because it turns out twerking out while working out can burn up to 1,200 calories in just one hour.

Now she's got a “Vixen Army” and says the key to her success was helping women get their sexy back by leaving their inhibitions at the door. Jones said she has never advertised the workout, instead relying on word-of-mouth and social media.

“We created an Instagram about 6 months ago and we encourage selfies in class,” she said. “And I think that is something that is pretty vain but you only take a selfie if you feel like you look good. So it's really like the Vixen Army kind of have self-promoted the class just because they had such a good time and they want to share it with their friends.”

When you walk in, the music takes over, a playlist with everything from Pitbull to ‘90s Miami bass.

Christy Rodriguez, 26, started classes 3 months ago and has already lost 30 pounds. She said that greater than the pounds lost is the confidence gained.

“I think that's really what sets this apart from anything else, is that they genuinely want to help people,” said Rodriguez. “They want women to reach their maximum potential and then from there make more goals and continue on. And not just in working out and losing weight and whatever, but in your life.”
