Jaromir Jagr, Carolina Hurricane? Agent says they’re on wish list

A report by a Czech publication claimed that free agent winger Jaromir Jagr was being pursued by a handful of teams, including the Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes and the Buffalo Sabres.

Jagr’s agent shot down the Sabres as a suitor on Tuesday; but 24 hours later, he confirmed that the Hurricanes are in fact on Jagr’s list of potential destinations.

Jonathan Stout of Canes Country broke the news that Carolina is on Jagr’s radar:

"There are a lot of reasons," Svoboda said. "Ron Francis is there and when he looks at the roster and everything else, he feels that it’s a very good team."

As for the JagrWatch derby, Svoboda says:

"A long story short, there are more than three teams," he said. "Jaromir wants to be sure of the decision that he makes because he was in Philly, he was in Dallas, then in Boston. He wants to make sure he makes the right decision."

Stout notes that GM Jim Rutherford made mention of a free agent who “that has said he will take less, and a one year contract, to come to us because he likes our team.” No word if that player would also fancy the vacant No. 68 …

Why Jagr? One number: 28. That’s the ranking of the Carolina power play last season; and despite some slippage for Jagr 5-on-5, he’s still a dangerous weapon on the half boards and lower on the man advantage.

If the words “Jagr” and “Will Take Less” can actually coexist, Raleigh could be his next tour stop.
