Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell, in the midst of a dominant season, suffered what appeared to be a scary injury Sunday afternoon against the San Francisco 49ers.
Campbell lay motionless on the field and was taken off on a stretcher, transported to a local hospital for tests. While this was happening, the Candlestick Park fans decided it was a good time to strike up the wave.
This angered 49ers team owner Jed York, who took to Twitter to vent Sunday night.
To say I'm disappointed some fans did the wave this afternoon while @Campbell93 was down is understatement. Hope you get well soon Calais

Rightfully so, we might add. This is tasteless behavior, in the same vein as the idiotic Houston Texans fans who cheered Matt Schaub getting hurt while he was on the turf hours before.
Thankfully, it appears that Campbell, who was released from the hospital last night, is doing quite well.
Great news: Calais @Campbell93 was released from Bay Area hospital late last night & has returned home to AZ.

A source close to Campbell confirmed to Shutdown Corner that the MRI was performed as a cautionary measure and that feeling had been present in all of his extremities throughout the post-injury process. It would not be surprising if Campbell doesn't miss much, if any, action.
Maybe some of these fans will think before they act stupid when an athlete lays prostrate on the field in pain, and perhaps seriously so.
